It Is Not True That DUI Has Nеver Been In Opposition

DUI was an opposition party 15 years ago, in 2006 when Gruevski formed a government with the DPA, NSDP and LDP. This party has been part of the Government for 13 years – since 2008. Hence, the information announced by the party “Levica” that if the Government of SDSM and DUI falls, DUI will finally go into opposition after 20 years, is false

The party “Levica” issued a statement in which it presented false information. Namely, reporting that the opposition parties in the parliament, VMRO-DPMNE, “Levica”, BESA, Alliance for Albanians and “Alternativa”, signed an “agreement for the fall of the SDSM-DUI government”, “Levica”, among other things, wrote:

Finally, after 20 years, DUI goes into opposition!

By securing the required majority in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, the dissolution of the Government is guaranteed through a vote of no confidence – in case Zoran Zaev does not resign. This agreement, in no case, means a coalition, and has a single goal – to overthrow the hybrid regime of DUI and SDSM. “Levica” will continue to act independently, i.e. in the next parliamentary elections – as the only political representative of the Macedonian oppressed class…

How will the next elections organized and by whom, further negotiations are forthcoming within the new majority.

EXPLANATION:

It is not true that the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), if the Government falls, will go into opposition for the first time, as “Levica” claims: “Finally after 20 years DUI goes into opposition!” Ali Ahmeti’s party members were in opposition for the first time 15 years ago, i.e. in 2006, when the first government of the then leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski, was formed.

On 28 July 2006, Gruevski received a mandate to form a new government from President Branko Crvenkovski. The new government was voted in the Assembly on 28 August and was voted for by MPs from the coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE, DPA, NSDP, DOM, PEI and VMRO-People’s Party, with VMRO-PP only voting for the Government but not being part of the governing coalition. Menduh Thaci’s DPA had 11 MPs, Tito Petkovski’s NSDP – 7 MPs, Liljana Popovska’s DOM – 1 MP and VMRO-NP – 6 MPs.

The term of this government ended on 26 July 2008, when early parliamentary elections were called. VMRO-DPMNE won 63 MPs in the 2008 elections (their best result so far), SDSM led by Radmila Šekerinska won 27 MPs, DUI – 18, DPA with Menduh Thaci – 11, PEI – 1. Gruevski became Prime Minister again, and instead of DPA, DUI entered the government coalition with VMRO-DPMNE for the first time, after the so-called May agreement between Gruevski and Ahmeti, according to which the winning parties from the Macedonian and Albanian bloc form the governing coalition.

Given all of the above, it can be concluded that DUI was an opposition party 15 years ago, in 2006 when Gruevski formed a government with the DPA, NSDP and LDP. This party has been part of the Government for 13 years – since 2008. Hence, the information announced by the party “Levica” that if the Government of SDSM and DUI falls, DUI will finally go into opposition after 20 years, is false.
