The EU and the US have nothing to do with Nazism. Claims that the EU and the US are Nazi, as well as disinformation about a “satanic NATO” and a “pedophile EU,” feed into pro-Kremlin disinformation, which has especially intensified since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine

We analyze a Facebook post which claims that the EU and the US are Nazi-like and in doing so “satanizes” the European Union and NATO.

The Tatars from Sofia cannot do anything without the support of neo-Nazis in Nazi America and satanic NATO and the pedophile EU, but you idolaters of Hydro-Micko ars****e are servants of those above, the post states.

It is not true that the European Union and the United States are neo-Nazis, as the post wants to portray. This narrative is in line with the pro-Kremlin disinformation that everyone is “Nazi” except Russia.

As EuVsDisinfo reports, for many years Russian state-controlled media have claimed that various states and entities are ruled by Nazis, or permeated by Nazi ideology. The examples are many and well documented in the EUvsDisinfo database since 2015: Moldova is ruled by Fascists, and so are the Baltic States and Poland. Europe is ‘supporting’ Fascism and so is the European Parliament. Speaking in Vladivostok six months into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Putin even speculated that the EU’s foreign policy chief, High Representative Josep Borrell, ‘would have been on the side of the fascists had he lived in the 1930s’

The claim that the European Union is Nazi and its connection to fascism is completely contrary to the real commitments and goals for which the Union was formed in the first place. It is a political and economic union of 27 member states primarily located in Europe, with policies that ensure the free movement of people, the flow of goods, services and capital in the internal market, common policies for trade, agriculture, and regional development.

On October 25, 2018, the European Parliament announced that it was concerned by the increasing trend of normalization of fascism, racism, and xenophobia and called on all European Union member states to ban neo-fascist and neo-Nazi groups.

Members of the European Parliament believe that far-right organizations in some member states are one of the causes of the growth of violence, which completely affects society and is targeted at Jews, Muslims, Roma, LGBTI people, etc.

They proposed setting up units within the police to combat hate crimes, to ensure that such incidents are prosecuted and investigated. The members of the European Parliament encourage national governments to effectively ban neo-fascist and neo-Nazi groups and all other foundations and associations that glorify Nazism or fascism.

The European Parliament called on member states to clearly condemn and sanction hate crime and  hate speech by political figures who use hatred and violence. They also added that member states need to counter the spread of racism, fascism, and xenophobia via the internet in cooperation with social media companies. The resolution calls on member states and national sports federations, in particular football clubs, to counter fascism, racism, and xenophobia in stadiums and other sports and cultural events by sanctioning and condemning these actions. It also proposes that EU member states draw up programs that can help individuals who are part of violent neo-fascist and neo-Nazi groups to separate from them and leave them. The Members of Parliament also emphasize the importance of education to raise awareness among youth about history and call on everyone to clearly refuse to commit the crimes of fascism of the past, adding that the truth about the Holocaust must not be trivialized.

From this it becomes clear that the European Union’s commitments are not only not fascist, but are also firmly based on anti-fascist policies, recommendations, and actions.

Also, the claim that America is Nazi does not correspond to reality and this is evident from the Constitution and the overall organization of the United States of America. The US Constitution establishes a federal democratic republican form of government, that is, there is an indivisible union of 50 sovereign states. The USA is a representative democracy because citizens are free to organize and elect their officials in free and secret elections. The purpose of the federal government, as stated in the preamble to the Constitution, is to ensure justice, domestic peace, defense, promotion of social rights, protection of freedom. The government in the USA is based on three principles: the rights that every person living in America has, power, defense by the people, and separation of powers– branches (pillars) of government with different powers.

In addition to these parameters that define democracy in the United States, respect for human rights has long been a central component of American foreign and domestic policy. Support for democracy not only promotes fundamental American values such as religious freedom and labor rights, but also creates a safer, more stable, and more prosperous global arena. Democratically led nations are more likely to secure peace, deter aggression, expand open markets, promote economic development, protect American citizens, combat international terrorism and crime, preserve and promote human and labor rights, avert humanitarian crises, and protect human health.

With these goals in mind, the United States strives to promote democracy as a means to achieve security and prosperity throughout the world, to assist newly formed democracies in implementing democratic principles, to help create democracies around the world, and to identify and reject regimes that deny their citizens the right to choose their leaders in free and transparent elections.

Democracy as a form of organization and political leadership takes into account the will of citizens, their interests and aspirations. It is the rule of the people, through the election of their representatives. All elements of democracy, including respect for human rights, are a central component of the overall policy of the United States.

As for the theses about the “satanic NATO” and the “pedophile EU,”  they are closely associated with the disinformation and propaganda spread by the Kremlin, aimed at discrediting the West in an attempt to justify the aggressive Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by the French newspaper Le Monde, on February 21, 2023, accused the West of making pedophilia “the norm.”

A wild attack typical of the Kremlin leader, but one which resonated with the most far-out conspiracy circles, such as the QAnon community which spreads disinformation about pedophile elites in the White House, writes Le Monde in an article dated March 2, 2023.

Conspiracy communities, which promote narratives blending Kremlin propaganda with QAnon ideology, have attempted to portray NATO as a satanic organization and to demonize the EU as godless and pedophilic. These claims are entirely unfounded. In reality, the facts, legal frameworks, and guiding principles of both the EU and NATO promote the exact opposite: stability, peace, the punishment of crimes such as pedophilia, and the advancement of equality and human dignity for all.

From all of the above, we can conclude that the EU and the US have nothing to do with Nazism. The claims that the EU and the US are Nazi, as well as the disinformation about the “satanic NATO” and the “pedophile EU” support the pro-Kremlin disinformation that has especially intensified after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Because of all this, we assess the post we are analyzing as untrue.
