Propaganda post justifies Russia by saying it was not conquering, but rather preventing global chaos
Contrary to what is stated in the post, it is not true that “Russia’s strategy is not to conquer.” This is evident from the fact that Russia currently controls 114,500 square kilometers, or 19 percent of Ukraine, including Crimea and most of the territory in the east and southeast of the country, according to data published by Reuters, obtained from open sources (maps)

We analyze a post on the social network Facebook which says:
Everything makes sense when you understand what Russia is waiting for. Its strategy is not to conquer, but to maintain balance and prevent global chaos. It does not react to every provocation, even when Western missiles kill its civilians. It does not enter Gaza, does not strike NATO bases, does not push for escalation. It knows where the West’s nuclear facilities are and constantly monitors the activities in them. Russia plays on time and patience. It will only act outside Ukraine if there is an attempt to activate nuclear weapons—and then it will neutralize the facilities before a catastrophe occurs. This is not a fight for territory, but to prevent the end. That is why it stands still, watches, and waits. It waits for the Western nations to realize at some point that their leaders are pushing them into a nuclear war in which Western Europe will be wiped off the map. It waits for the nations to straighten themselves out and protect themselves from the nuclear destruction that their leaders are preparing for them.
Contrary to what is stated in the post, it is not true that “Russia’s strategy is not to conquer.” This is evident from the fact that Russia controls 114,500 square kilometers, or 19 percent of Ukraine, including Crimea and most of the territory in the eastern and southeastern parts of the country, according to data published by the Reuters news agency, obtained from open sources (maps).
Russia claims that Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, which were recognized by Moscow as part of Ukraine when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, are now part of Russia. Ukraine reiterates that it will never recognize the Russian occupation of its country, while most countries continue to recognize Ukraine’s borders as established in 1991.
Russian forces seized control of Crimea in 2014 and, following a disputed referendum on joining Russia, Moscow annexed the region. The area occupied is about 27,000 square kilometers. Russia controls 88 percent of the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine, along with all of Luhansk Oblast and 75 percent of Donetsk Oblast.
The DDIS assesses that Russia is currently conducting
hybrid warfare against NATO and the West, the report says.
In addition, senior political figures suspect that recent drone incidents at airports in Germany and Denmark are orchestrated by Russia for testing purposes. Drone flights have recently been observed over security-critical facilities in several European Union and NATO countries.
The post also mentions that “Russia would only act outside of Ukraine if there was an attempt to activate nuclear weapons to neutralize the facilities before a catastrophe occurred.”
However, Truthmeter.mk has already written that only the Russian leadership led by Vladimir Putin directly uses nuclear rhetoric and threats, while NATO and the EU maintain their doctrine of deterrence and do not threaten an attack. Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, Putin and other senior Russian officials have repeatedly made direct and indirect threats with nuclear weapons.
NATO is a defensive alliance that has nuclear weapons only to deter attack, not to start a conflict. According to NATO, “as long as nuclear weapons exist, NATO will remain a nuclear Alliance,” but with a clear emphasis that the decision to use nuclear weapons is made collectively and only as a last resort.
It is not true, as stated in the post, that “Western leaders are pushing Western nations into nuclear war,” nor that “their leaders are preparing them for nuclear destruction.” Namely, on NATO’s website, in response number 12 to the question “What is NATO’s response to Russia’s dangerous rhetoric around nuclear, chemical and biological weapons” it says:
Russia’s threatening nuclear rhetoric is dangerous and irresponsible. NATO takes these threats seriously, but will not be intimidated. NATO remains committed and sends a clear message to Russia that nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought. Any use of nuclear weapons by Russia would fundamentally change the nature of war and would have severe consequences for Russia. Furthermore, NATO partners are deeply concerned about Russia’s reported use of chemical weapons against Ukrainian forces. Any use of chemical or biological weapons by Russia would be a violation of international law and a war crime and would result in serious consequences.
EU member states regularly call for a de-escalation of nuclear rhetoric, including criticism of Moscow for its threats.
As for “Western missiles killing Russian civilians,” Russia has repeatedly bombed populated areas in Ukraine, killing civilians, including children. Russia has repeatedly denied that it intentionally targets civilians, but many have been killed in missile strikes, drone strikes, and shelling. Moreover, when the post mentions that Russia wanted to prevent global chaos, it fails to explain that Russia itself created that chaos in 2022, when it carried out an unprovoked military invasion of a sovereign, democratic, and free state with a democratically elected government—Ukraine.
Due to all the above facts, we assess the post we are reviewing as untrue.
