Soros is not under house arrest, U.S. Justice Department is not investigating him for supporting terrorism
Not only has there been no official statement about the alleged house arrest of billionaire George Soros and the alleged escape of his son Alexander to Dubai, neither from the Justice Department nor the White House, but such news cannot be found in any credible media outlet. The last major attacks against Soros and his foundation by the Trump administration were in September of last year. Since then, there has been no new information, nor any investigations against him

Billionaire and philanthropist George Soros is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for many conspiracy theorists, including in North Macedonia. Truthmeter.mk has reviewed many posts about him and his organization, the Open Society Foundations (OSF), over the past decade, in which he is portrayed as a puppeteer pulling the strings of various governments around the world where OSF operates. And let’s not forget the “de-Sorosization” that was pushed by the former VMRO-DPMNE government led by former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.
After all these years, Soros and his foundation are now once again the target of rumors circulating online. According to reports, 47 armed agents, twelve armored vehicles and a helicopter surrounded Soros’s New York property, and he is now allegedly forced under house arrest. And his son, who is the president of the Foundation, fled on a private jet to Dubai, because the United Arab Emirates does not have an extradition treaty with the United States. The reason? US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that includes a section entitled: “Freezing Assets of Persons Engaged in Transnational Criminal Organizations Targeting American Sovereignty.”
All of these claims are completely false. No credible media outlet has reported that Soros was placed under house arrest, and the official response from the OSF is that they deny this disinformation. The executive order number cited has nothing to do with freezing the assets of criminal organizations.

As you can see, the post contains several controversial elements. First, no credible media outlets can be found reporting this news, but several portals have verified this viral disinformation: MSN, TN, MEAWW, and the Hindustan Times, and rated it as inaccurate.
The post also mentions that Soros’s placement under house arrest is a consequence of Executive Order No. 14291, which Trump allegedly signed on February 14 of this year.
According to the Federal Register, Executive Order 14291 was signed by the U.S. President on 01.05.2025 and concerns the establishment of the Religious Liberty Commission. If you look at the official document of this executive order, you can see that it contains only three pages, instead of 47 as claimed in the post.
Neither the website of the U.S. Department of Justice nor the White House website contains any information about the alleged investigation of Soros and his foundation, nor are there any comments regarding these developments on the OSF website.
The post also mentions that Soros has supported the political campaigns of certain prosecutors across the United States in recent years, stating:
They weren’t prosecutors. They were operatives. Paid by a foreign-born billionaire to dismantle American justice from within.
It is undeniable that Soros has supported such campaigns, but he is not the only billionaire born outside the United States to support various political campaigns in America. A prime example of this is Elon Musk, who was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and is one of the main supporters and donors to the Trump campaign and the Republican Party in general. According to sites that keep records of donations to political campaigns, in the 2024 election cycle Musk donated about $300 million.
Not only that, the post attempts to make a connection between Soros and Epstein and claims that they allegedly used the same banks. However, if they did indeed share the same money-laundering networks, banks, and lawyers, no evidence, documents, sources, even anonymous ones, or names of banks are provided to support this claim so that they could be contacted for an official response. Therefore, there is no way to verify the veracity of the claim.
What fueled this disinformation?
The question arises as to why new disinformation is being spread now. The last time there was turmoil between Soros and the Trump administration was in September 2025, when the U.S. president ordered prosecutors at the Justice Department to begin planning how they could investigate the philanthropist.
Specifically, according to The New York Times, the department was investigating groups linked to Soros, who is also a major donor to the rival Democratic Party. As The New York Times reported at the time (September 25, 2025), a senior Justice Department official had directed more than six U.S. attorneys’ offices to develop plans to investigate organizations funded by Soros, whom President Trump has called to be “thrown into prison.”
Speaking about this operation, the Justice Department then announced the following position:
“This DOJ, along with our hard-working and dedicated U.S. Attorneys, will always prioritize public safety and investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law,” ABC News reported.
In response to this position of the Justice Department, the OSF stated:
“The Open Society Foundations unequivocally condemn terrorism and do not fund terrorism. Our activities are peaceful and lawful, and our grantees are expected to abide by human rights principles and comply with the law,” a spokesperson for Open Society Foundations told ABC News.
Some time later, Congressman Buddy Carter of Georgia called on the Department of Justice to investigate Soros’ role in left-wing violence, unfoundedly linking this to the assassination of right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk.
After these events, no further information can be found about any progress in the investigation or whether it led to any conclusions.
At the end of last year, in a review of all the events surrounding the Soros investigation, Rolling Stone wrote that the right-wing think tank Capital Research Center had produced a newly released report alleging that Soros, through his foundations, supports terrorist organizations. Based on this report, the Justice Department allegedly directed prosecutors to open investigations against Soros.
However, as Rolling Stone notes, the problem is that the allegations in the Capital Research Center report are exaggerated or completely inaccurate. The dates on which the grants from the Open Society Foundations were paid are incorrectly stated, it is incorrectly stated which organizations were awarded the grants, and the report refers to groups that did not receive any money from the Open Society Foundations (OSF) at all.
Among the organizations accused in the report of “directly aiding domestic terrorism” are youth climate advocacy groups such as the Sunrise Movement, the Movement for Black Lives, and Dream Defenders, a nonprofit founded in the wake of Trayvon Martin’s killing. Specifically, the report attacks the Sunrise Movement for expressing support for Stop Cop City, a movement that protested the razing of a section of Atlanta forest to build a massive police training facility.
