The Friendship Treaty between Germany and Great Britain is not some fascist alliance against Russia

The modern treaty of friendship between Germany and Great Britain cannot legitimately or historically be compared to Hitler’s Nazi goals. Hitler’s “dream” included: German domination of Europe, the destruction of the Soviet Union and communism, the genocide of Slavs, Jews, and other “undesirable” peoples according to Nazi ideology, the destruction of parliamentary democracy and the establishment of a totalitarian state

We analyze a Facebook post that says:

Hitler’s dream came true.

The two Germanic tribes united against the Slavs (Russia).

The post also shares a photo of an article stating that Germany and Great Britain have formed a military alliance.

We looked up the article in the photo to see what kind of military alliance it is. The Makfax article, citing Deutsche Welle, states that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a friendship treaty.

This agreement is not just a military alliance agreement, but covers multiple segments. In addition to security and armaments, it covers relations with Ukraine and the Western Balkans, migration policy, travel, energy, the economy, and transport.

The security section states:

Germany and the United Kingdom confirm close cooperation in this area. It is noteworthy that a mutual assistance clause is being negotiated, which is to bilaterally supplement Article 5 of the NATO Treaty. It states:

“Aware of the close alignment of their fundamental interests and convinced that there is no strategic threat to one side that is not also a strategic threat to the other, the Contracting Parties, as close allies, reaffirm their deep commitment to mutual defense and provide each other with mutual assistance in the event of an armed attack on the other side, including military means.”

This should also apply to new areas such as cybersecurity.

Great Britain (a geographical term for the largest island in the British Isles that is often used as an abbreviation for the full name of the political entity the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which unites England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland) and Germany have signed a friendship treaty that, among other things, defines cooperation in the field of security. So, this is not some special and exclusive military alliance or agreement, as the post wants to portray.

As for “Hitler’s dream” and some kind of unification of “the two German tribes against Russia,” alluding to the fact that this agreement between Germany and Great Britain is some kind of fascist agreement–that is, that some kind of fascist alliance will oppose Moscow–in that part of the post, a narrative is recognized that is in line with the pro-Kremlin disinformation that everyone is “Nazi” except Russia. As EuVsDisinfo reports, for many years Russian state-controlled media outlets have claimed that various countries and entities are run by Nazis, or are guided by Nazi ideology. The examples are well documented in the EUvsDisinfo database from 2015. There, for example, it is claimed that Moldova is run by fascists, as are the Baltic states and Poland. Furthermore, it is claimed that Europe “supports” fascism, and so does the European Parliament.

The modern treaty of friendship between Germany and Great Britain cannot legitimately or historically be compared to the Nazi goals of Adolf Hitler. Hitler’s “dream” included: German domination of Europe, the destruction of the Soviet Union and communism, the genocide of Slavs, Jews and other “undesirable” peoples according to Nazi ideology, the destruction of parliamentary democracy and the establishment of a totalitarian state.

Modern European states are liberal democracies, members of NATO and the EU (or allies of those organizations), and their cooperation is based on the values of democracy, market economy, and human rights, and not on ideological racism or plans of conquest, although the Kremlin and its supporters constantly, in order to justify Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, claim that the EU and NATO are fascist organizations and that they incite war. Truthmeter.mk has debunked such disinformation on several occasions so far.

As for the claim in the post that the agreement between Great Britain and Germany is a unification of the two German tribes, this is a historically and politically unfounded formulation. Although some right-wing or ultranationalist narratives sometimes use this rhetoric, it does not correspond to reality. Germany and Great Britain are not German tribes in an ethnic or political sense today. Great Britain is a multinational and multicultural country with its own history, which has often been in conflict with Germany (including both world wars).

There is no evidence that contemporary mutual agreements between Western states are aimed at united action against Russia as a Slavic state, but rather are a reaction to specific political and security events (for example Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine).

From all of the above, we can conclude that the post we are analyzing is untrue.
