We analyze a post on the social network Facebook which says:

Russian soldiers killed over 3,000 German and 2,000 English soldiers deployed to Ukraine against Russia.

There are no credible sources that confirm the claim stated in the post that Russian soldiers killed over 3,000 German and 2,000 British soldiers.

There is no evidence from public sources (“The Guardian”, “Al Jazeera”, British or German defence ministries, etc.) that Germany or the United Kingdom have troops deployed in Ukraine, nor that any of their soldiers have been killed.

Casualty figures in the war are generally linked to Russian and Ukrainian forces, not to soldiers from Germany or Britain on the front as direct combat units.

There are articles (for example, from local media outlets or leaked reports) that claim that “British soldiers” are present “on the ground” in Ukraine.

However, official British and German military or government sources do not confirm the deployment of combat forces as a regular army. Euvsdisinfo assesses that some of these claims are disinformation.

This is a pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative in the context of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. A broad coalition of 50-plus countries including NATO member states support Ukraine with military and technical assistance, but Alliance troops do not fight on the frontline. NATO officials have frequent contact with their Ukrainian counterparts, but there are no NATO troops on the frontline. Foreigners who serve in Ukraine’s International Legion, are fully legal servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine rather than mercenaries. Foreign volunteers, who officially joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in accordance with the 1977 protocol to the Geneva Conventions (Part I, Article 1), fight against the Russian occupiers in Ukraine legally, as they are a part of the structure of subordination to Ukrainian government agencies, Euvsdisinfo states in its analysis.

Truthmeter.mk has previously debunked similar disinformation, such as that German soldiers are fighting in Ukraine.

As stated on the website of the German Ministry of Defence, Germany supports Ukraine by supplying weapons and equipment from the Bundeswehr’s stockpiles and with the help of supplies from industry financed by a special program that allows people on the ground to take responsibility for their own security. Currently, as part of this program, Germany has transferred 20 Leopard 1A5 tanks and 18 Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine.

The information that there are German soldiers in Ukraine was denied by the German Ministry of Defence in a statement to Deutsche Welle on September 24, 2023, rejecting information from Russian media outlets that a German Leopard tank with a Bundeswehr crew was allegedly destroyed in the war zone in Ukraine.

There are no German tank crews in Ukraine, a ministry representative told Deutsche Welle.

Former British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, in 2024, also denied that there were British troops on the front in Ukraine.

We are not committing UK troops on the ground to Ukraine… That is certainly the UK position, and remains the UK position at this time.

According to a British Parliament document (Commons Library Research Briefing), Defence Minister Luke Pollard stated:

It is the position of the UK Government that we do not have and will not provide UK troops for combat roles in Ukraine.

The same document states that “training … will continue” through the Operation Interflex program, but this is separate from combat operations.

According to the British Ministry of Defence, the Russian budget and force suffered very large losses, but this refers to the Russian side, not to “German and British” losses.

According to a report by the British Ministry of Defence, Russia lost at least 3,500 main battle tanks and around 7,500 armored vehicles. In the same report, British intelligence analysis stated that “Most of the personnel currently serving in the Russian military have received minimal training,” and that commanders were using “basic tactics” despite the high casualty rates. According to UK Defence Intelligence, Russia suffered huge human losses: a report from April 2025 stated that Russia may have lost more than 920,000 people (dead and wounded) since the beginning of the invasion.

From all of the above, we can conclude that there is no evidence that German and British soldiers are fighting on the Ukrainian front. There is not a single source from a reputable media outlet or institution that would confirm the claim made in the post that Russian soldiers killed over 3,000 German and 2,000 British soldiers.

Because of all this, we assess the post we are analyzing as untrue.
