We analyze a Facebook post in which a video is shared and it says:

“You go to war with Russia (until the last Ukrainian), we will give you money.” Naive fool, madman Zelensky ; This is 100% not Russian propaganda.

As part of the post, video material is shared that does not at all correspond to what is stated as a quote in the description of the post. Namely, the video shows Senator Lindsey Graham with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. In the video he says:

I am here with President Zelensky. I am such an admirer of what you and your country have done, you are trying to stop the Russians so we don’t have to fight them. They don’t want any American troops, they just need the weapons to free their country [Ukraine] (editor’s note) of a terrible invasion, they are sitting on trillion dollars’ worth of minerals that can be good for our economy, so I want to keep helping our friends in Ukraine. We can win, says Graham in the video material.

As can be seen from the quote in the video, it is evident Graham has not said “You go to war with Russia until the last Ukrainian and we will give you money.” Such words or sentence have not been said by the Senator.

In the post we are reviewing, Ukraine is accused of being at war with Russia, even though it was Russia that carried out an unprovoked military invasion of Ukrainian territory, forcing the country to defend itself. In those self-defense efforts, numerous Western countries helped and continue to help in various ways, and in this case, the Senator also talks about economic cooperation between Ukraine and the West. In his statements, he has repeatedly emphasized that, according to him, Vladimir Putin is fighting in Ukraine for minerals that should go to China.

In his public appearances, Graham stresses the importance of supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, emphasizing the strategic resources located on the country’s territory.

They [Russians] (editor’s note) are sitting on 10-12 trillion dollars of critical minerals in Ukraine. They could be the richest country in all of Europe. And Putin wants to share these assets with China. If we help Ukraine now, they can become [the richest] (editor’s note). We once dreamed that 10-12 trillion dollars of critical mineral assets could be used by Ukraine and the West, and not given to China—this is a very big deal,” said Graham in a televised appearance which was also broadcast on Ukrainian media outlets.

The Senator called on the US to actively contribute to the Ukrainian victory in the war. Graham has also expressed public views that Putin wants to recreate the Russian Empire, calling him a megalomaniac who will not stop at Ukraine.

Also, the statement in the post we are reviewing claiming Ukraine is at war with Russia until the last Ukrainian is part of the Kremlin’s propaganda machinery. It is Russia that attacked Ukraine in February 2022, and Ukraine as an independent country has the right to defend itself and use the available resources received as aid from its friends. NATO sends military aid to Ukraine, without being a participant in the war.

Ukraine is not a NATO member, it is a partner state, which means it works closely with NATO. On NATO’s webpage, several myths have been debunked which are spread from sources of the Kremlin’s propaganda. The first one states NATO “is at war with Russia in Ukraine”, on the account of Ukrainian victims.

Similarly, in the post we are reviewing, instead of NATO, it is alluded to be the USA (whose representative is Senator Graham) as the instigator.

NATO is not at war with Russia. We do not seek confrontation with Russia. NATO supports Ukraine in its right to self-defense, as enshrined in the UN Charter… says on NATO’s website.

The West helps Ukraine defend itself against Russian military invasion and maintain its territorial sovereignty and integrity. On that path of self-defense, different narratives appear that present Ukraine as occupied by the Western countries or as a puppet in their hands, with the aim of waging war against Russia. However, that is far from reality, because the government in Ukraine is sovereign, democratic, defense of democratic elections, and the citizens of Ukraine have the sovereign right to decide on their future and toward which alliances they will incline.

Due to all the above facts, we evaluate the post we are reviewing as untrue.
