Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the expulsion of five Russian diplomats from North Macedonia, said Russia would be forced to take reciprocal measures without announcing them. Zakharova’s comment was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, as well as on the Facebook profile of the Russian Embassy, writes Meta.mk

“This underlined hostile step is a continuation of the course towards the dizzying breakdown of bilateral relations with Russia, which was taken by the authorities of North Macedonia a few weeks ago. By joining the Russophobic hysteria started by the West, Skopje has once again reaffirmed its readiness to recklessly sacrifice sovereignty and make decisions that run counter to public sentiment and run counter to rooted national interests,” Zakharova said in the statement.

The move comes after the Foreign Ministry yesterday decided to declare five diplomats from the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Skopje as “persona non grata”. As undesirable in the country, they were given five days to leave our territory.

“According to the information received from the competent authorities, these individuals were carrying out activities that are contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the Macedonian Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday.
