For now, even the change of the company’s name is in the realm of speculation, but it is definitely true that the claim in the post that Mark Zuckerberg himself announced “the end of the social network as we know it” is false. There is no such statement from Zuckerberg, nor is there any announcement of the closure of the company, as this post suggests

We are reviewing a Facebook post in which it is claimed that in 7 days, Facebook “goes permanently into history”. In the post, this claim is attributed to the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg.

The founder and majority owner of the powerful American company Facebook, confirmed that in a week he will announce everything about the end of the social network we are familiar with…, reads the photo in the post.

The post falsely suggests that Facebook will cease to exist, even though it is far from the truth. The title is seductive and is similar to clickbait. It was posted as part of this text, but there is no link to the text in the post, which makes it even more likely that the post will be misinterpreted, and Facebook users will be misled and think that this social network will cease to exist.

But what will happen in 7 days, i.e. on October 28 this year?

According to the respectable British “Guardian”, Facebook is planning to change the name of the company, but not the name of the social network.

“The Verge” reported that the new name for the company may be related to Horizon, a word used in at least two virtual reality platforms developed by the company.

Facebook told the Guardian that it will not comment on speculation.

The move to rebrand Facebook is also linked to the construction of the so-called “metaverse”, an online world where people can use different devices to communicate in virtual reality, according to a report on the portal “Verge”.

Facebook has invested heavily in virtual reality and intends to connect users across multiple applications. The company recently announced that it plans to create 10,000 jobs in the EU over the next five years to help build Metaverse, Al Jazeera reports.

So, for now, even the change of the company’s name is in the realm of speculation, but the claim in the post, that Mark Zuckerberg himself announced “the end of the social network as we know it” is definitely false. There is no such statement from Zuckerberg, nor is the announcement of the closure of the company, as indicated by the post we are reviewing.
