The Information that Poland Will Send Troops to Ukraine is a Speculation

The source of this information is a Telegram post written by Russian military reporter Semyon Pegov on his channel. However, Polish President Andrzej Duda has stated on several occasions that Poland does not plan to send troops to Ukraine, that is, that “Polish soldiers will not go to Ukraine to fight.” Duda made this statement in early May after a meeting of the Polish National Security Council. He warned against disinformation on the subject, saying: “Don’t believe such baseless news that ‘Poland wants to join the war, and Polish soldiers will be sent to war.’

A Facebook post claims that a NATO member has directly and officially entered the conflict in Ukraine and that mobilization is soon being prepared in our country as well. This is fake news.

Here is the first NATO member that directly and officially enters the conflict in Ukraine. This is the first domino, now it is the turn of the others and it cannot be stopped. Get ready, citizens of the North, the mobilization is near. You will have the chance to die for your NATO ideals, the post says.

Attached to the Facebook post is a screenshot of a media article whose headline claims “two battalions of Polish infantry have arrived in Ukraine.”

The source of this information is a Telegram post written by Russian military reporter Semyon Pegov on his channel. And that’s all. There is no other information that can be found in the media space that could be an additional confirmation for this claim. There are no photos or videos of Polish troops on Ukrainian territory fighting against Russia.

Moreover, the photo used for this article is of a Polish soldier taken on the Polish-Belarusian border in Koden, Eastern Poland on January 27 of this year, not of a Polish soldier in Ukraine taken now.

Who is Semyon Pegov?

Semyon Pegov is a former journalist for the Russian TV channel LifeNews in Donbas, eastern Ukraine. In 2017, he became a pro-Russian military blogger and now has 800,000 followers on YouTube and over one million followers on Telegram. He covered the protests in Belarus against the re-election of President Lukashenko in August 2020, as well as the Nagorno-Karabakh war between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the fall of 2020. Today, Pegov is part of the “Somalia” battalion of the armed forces of the Donetsk Republic and shares videos on Telegram of their daily operations. However, his posts are often full of disinformation.

After all, Polish President Andrzej Duda has stated on several occasions that Poland does not plan to send soldiers to Ukraine, that is, that “Polish soldiers will not go to Ukraine to fight.” Duda made this statement in early May after a meeting of the Polish National Security Council.

He warned against disinformation on the subject, saying: “Don’t believe such baseless news that ‘Poland wants to join the war, and Polish soldiers will be sent to war.’

Of course, if it is necessary to defend our country, we will defend it. However, there is no indication that we will be attacked, he said.

Poland has provided military aid to its neighbor, but it has not expressed any plans to send troops to Ukrainian territory. Such reports that Poland has joined the war in Ukraine have been shared before and were debunked.

The General Command of the Polish Armed Forces rejected the accusations and said any alleged order to move troops was “falsified”.

This information, which comes from a pro-Russian military blogger and for which there is absolutely no official confirmation, nor can you find a media article from a relevant media that can confirm this, is one big speculation. On the basis of speculation coming from the Russian side, it cannot be categorically claimed that a NATO member directly and officially entered the war in Ukraine, especially when Poland itself and the NATO alliance emphasized on several occasions that they will not get involved in the war by sending troops.

This announcement, in addition to its purpose of manipulating and spreading speculation, spreads panic in the public that mobilization will soon take place in our country as well since we are a member of NATO and that “we will die for NATO ideals”.

Nevertheless, this is not true. NATO is not involved in the war in Ukraine by sending troops and this will not happen in the future either, because Ukraine is not a member of the Alliance.

In times of war, when people are hungry for details, disinformation and war propaganda from both sides can be as viral as verified facts. Therefore, before forming an opinion and sharing something on social networks, it is necessary to check whether the information comes from official sources.
