It is not true that in Kyiv’s children hospital there was NATO General Staff

Neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian side has indicated that the Children’s Hospital in Kyiv was used as a location for NATO’s General Staff, as claimed by the post. The biggest military organization, NATO, is not involved in the war in Ukraine, nor does it have troops deployed. NATO is assisting Ukraine and providing support in its efforts to defend itself against the ongoing Russian aggression that has persisted for over two years

We are fact-checking a post on the social network Threads, commenting on the Russian attack on the Children’s Hospital in Kyiv from the 8th of July 2024 saying the following:

And inside, NATO General Staff. Write everything.

The post also shares an article from TV21, reporting on the attack on the hospital in Kyiv as initially announced by the Ukrainian Internal Affairs Ministry and that 20 people were killed.

Some of the buildings hit included the “Okmadit” hospital in Kyiv, the largest medical centre for children in Ukraine, key for curing the sickest children, informs, inter alia, TV21.

Nowhere does the article mention that the NATO General Staff was located in the hospital.

Such information was not released either by the Ukrainian or by the Russian side.

Namely, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of the attack.

Russia cannot claim that it does not know where its missiles are flying and must be held fully accountable for all of its crimes – against the people, against the children, against humanity in general, wrote Zelenskyy on X, reported the Voice of America.

His statement clearly states that the attack was targeting civilian victims and he never mentioned anywhere NATO General Staff.

Neither did Russia mention such a thing – that it targeted NATO infrastructure. The Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov accused Ukraine as responsible for the attack on the hospital, stressing – but without offering evidence – that the Ukrainian anti-missile fire was to blame for the attack.

In a statement given to Reuters, he reiterated Moscow’s persistent claim that it did not attack civilian targets in Ukraine.

Ukrainian authorities announced that Russia attacked the main Children’s Hospital in Kyiv with a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile and that it poured missiles in other cities throughout Ukraine thereby killing at least 41 civilians in the deadliest wave of air strikes for months, specifies the Reuters.

Hence, neither from the Ukrainian side nor from the Russian side was it stated that NATO’s General Staff was hit in the hospital in Kyiv as the post claims. NATO, as the biggest military organization, is not involved in the war in Ukraine, nor does it have troops deployed. NATO is simply helping Ukraine and extending support in the attempts to defend itself from Russian aggression that has been ongoing for more than two years.

Up to date, there have been many attempts to spread public disinformation about NATO being directly involved in the war and Truthmeter has debunked them.

From all of the above-noted, we can conclude that the post fact-checked is assessed as untrue.
