A post on Facebook (screenshot here) claims that US President Joe Biden went on vacation to Nevada and hasn’t visited Maui in Hawaii, which was hit by a terrifying fire that took away more than 100 lives. This claim is not true.

Biden landed in Nevada for another vacation, without having visited Maui. Until Saturday, the number of victims in the fire reached 114.

It is not true that Biden did not visit Maui. He went to Nevada but interrupted his vacation to go to Maui, where he met with local authorities and citizens, giving his support in the tragedy.

Biden’s visit occurred on 21.08.2023 (Monday), and international media covered the visit.

President Biden, joined by his spouse, Jill Biden, toured the scorched remains of Lahaina, a coastal town on the Hawaiian island of Maui on Monday, in his first visit since the devastating wildfires killed more than 100 people and left behind scenes of twisted metal and hollowed-out homes, writes New York Times in its report on the Biden’s visit to Maui.

Biden, who interrupted his summer vacation at Lake Tahoe in Nevada, met the wildfire survivors and the emergency workers as well as the central and local authorities and took an aerial tour of the fire remains, adds the article in New York Times, enjoined by photographs.

President Joe Biden arrived in fire-ravaged Maui on Monday to witness the devastation left by an inferno more than a week ago and assess for himself a government response that some residents initially found lacking, specifies CNN covering Biden’s visit to Maui.

During the visit, the President sought to reassure residents that the federal government will support their recovery, informed CNN.

There are also video clips from the visit of Maui by the American President, for example, this one:

From all of the above-noted, we can conclude that the President of the USA, Joe Biden, visited Maui after he interrupted his vacation in Nevada. He saw the damage inflicted by the devastating island wildfires that took away more than 100 victims. Evidence of his visit is the global media coverage, including video recordings from the event. The claim that he did not visit Maui is not true and hence, we assess the post as not true.
