Bill Gates Has Not Been Arrested

The news of the alleged arrest of Microsoft founder Bill Gates was first published by a portal with satirical content. In the “about us” section of the site, it is said that the “Information on this website is for informational and educational and entertainment purposes. This website contains humor, parody, and satire. We have included this disclaimer for our protection, on the advice on legal counsel.”

The arrest of the famous Bill Gates would have been broadcast in all mainstream media and would have been published by all media organizations in the world. But none of that happened because the news was false. Even after the announcement of this news, Bill Gates is active on his Twitter account.

We review a Facebook post that cites a text claiming that Bill Gates (the founder of Microsoft) was arrested by the US military for child trafficking and crimes against US citizens.

When you click on the text, it leads to an article, which, in turn, refers to a Croatian portal and describes in detail the alleged arrest, which never happened.

It is falsely claimed that Gates was arrested “on Tuesday, July 27, after months of using his wealth and contacts with the deep state to escape law enforcement.” It is also not true that Gates is accused of forcing the US Drug Enforcement Administration to give urgent approval for a Covid-19 vaccine, knowing that it would “break down human DNA”. The article added that Gates had been charged with child trafficking and that he was “waiting to be transferred to Guantanamo Bay” after being detained. US administration is considering closing Cuba’s controversial Guantanamo Bay prison. Aside from the fact that there are no US citizens in Guantanamo now, and although there were in the past, it is very difficult today to send a US citizen to Guantanamo.

The text is full of details that suggest that the author “knows what he is talking about”, given that they have so many information. However, when one starts to check one by one, each of the allegations is a lie.

The text was first published by this portal.

Since the original article was published, Bill Gates has been active on his Twitter account as well as on YouTube. He has 9 videos on his YouTube channel since the end of July (after he was allegedly arrested) and in most of them, he is the main actor. Not to mention that he gave an interview to CNN two and a half weeks ago, while he was supposed to be arrested.

It is important for social media users to keep in mind what websites they are accessing, whether those websites often publish lies, misinformation or satire that do not post a disclaimer or are serious media organizations with an imprint and a professional journalistic code.

We assess this post as untrue.
