We are reviewing a Facebook post with a conspiracy narrative claiming that former US President Barack Obama, along with US Institute of Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci and Bill Gates’ wife Melinda Gates, were at Wuhan Laboratory in 2015.

In addition, the Chinese government is accused of being the creator of the coronavirus in a laboratory.

Do you still think this is a random and real pandemic? Pictured in 2015 are Obama, Fauci and Melinda Gates in the laboratory where the coronavirus originated. The coronavirus that kills and infects people around the world was created in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and such an idea would have been labeled a conspiracy theory until a few weeks ago. But earlier this week, Chinese virologist Dr. Li Meng Ian, in an exclusive interview with VION, claimed that the deadly virus had been developed in a government laboratory in Wuhan. She also said that the Chinese government was aware of the spread of Covid-19, the post claims.

But this is a LIE. It is not true that the photos in this post, which do not show Bill Gates’ wife Melinda at all, were taken in China. They were filmed in the United States, in the state of Maryland, at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda.

You can see the original and first published photo here. It has been published on 2 December 2014.

Except that it was taken in the United States, not in a laboratory in Wuhan, the photograph, of course, has nothing to do with the coronavirus, because the virus did not exist six years ago.

The photo, which has been misused for falsely claiming that the coronavirus was invented in Wuhan and that Americans are behind it, was first posted by Dr Francis Collins on his blog: “Dr Nancy Sullivan discusses Ebola research with President Barack Obama, the director of the institute, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and the Minister of Health and Human Services, Sylvia Burwell.”

The blog post also reads that Obama, Fauci and Burwell were on campus to visit the vaccine development center and see how Ebola biomedical research is progressing.

However, it is true that a doctor from China published a study in which she claims that the coronavirus was created in a laboratory. You can see her full explanation for what she researched here.

However, since the publication of this paper, many scholars from all over the world have assessed it as unsubstantiated, as the Washington Post wrote. A WHO team also visited the laboratory. But then the mission’s first man, Peter Ben Embarek, said it was “extremely unbelievable” that the virus had spread from a laboratory leak from Wuhan.

Truthometer has already announced that on 30 April last year, all 17 US intelligence agencies issued a joint statement on this topic. It is a set of different institutions that employ hundreds of thousands of people, which means that it is impossible for all those institutions and their employees to make or agree to lie and make it work without any problems. And their assessment is clear:

The intelligence community agrees with the broad scientific consensus that the Covid-19 virus is not man-made and is not genetically modified.

The US intelligence community has access to all the necessary professional and financial resources to investigate this matter beyond any doubt. According to this view, reached by consensus the current coronavirus, which causes covid-19 disease, is naturally occurring.

However, a post with an old and incorrectly titled photo is trying to link former US President Barack Obama and Melinda Gates to the alleged creation of the coronavirus in a Wuhan lab. The photos exist as such and are not computer-manipulated, the context i.e. the date and location of their shooting, is not manipulated,. They were not recorded in Wuhan and have nothing to do with the coronavirus, but with Ebola research in Maryland in the United States. WHO officials after a visit to the Wuhan lab, said that it was “extremely unlikely” that the virus had left the lab.
