No Evidence Proves that Ukraine is Trying to Drag Belorus into War

Belarus – Russia’s key ally – called upon Kyiv to fully investigate after C 300 rocket came close to its borders. According to Kiril Kazancev, Belarus defence officer, two scenarios are looked into – the first is unintentional, accidental launch by Ukraine, while the second is intentional provocation by the Ukrainian military forces. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence informed that it was prepared to call in experts from countries that do not support “terrorist Russia” to assist in investigating the incident. The Defence Ministry of Ukraine does not rule out the possibility of intentional provocation by which Moscow launches its own missile only to be intercepted on Belarus territory

 

 

We are fact-checking a post published on the social network Facebook sharing an information titled: ”Latest news – Ukrainian missile falls in Belorus”. The post claims:

From the beginning of the war, incidents are ongoing with Ukrainian subversive military forces in the Russian region Belgorod. Yesterday, for the first time the Ukrainian subversive group was eliminated in the Bryansk region (video on Telegram Channel), which is on the very border-point between Ukraine, Russia and Belorus. Now we have this scenario with the Ukrainian missile. Zelenskyy tried to implicate Poland directly into the war, but was not successful. Now he is trying to get Belarus involved.

There is no evidence that Ukraine is trying to drag Belarus into war. The Ukrainian Defence Spokesperson reported that the incident was an outcome of the air defence. The first scenario is unintentional, accidental launch by Ukraine due to the low level of military training or rocket malfunction. The second one is intentional provocation by the Ukrainian military forces.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence informed that it was prepared to call experts in from countries that do not support “terrorist Russia” to assist in investigating the incident, “retaining the unconditional right to defend and protect its skies”. The Defence Ministry of Ukraine does not rule out the possibility of intentional provocation by which Moscow launches its own missile only to be intercepted on Belarus territory.

BBC reported that Belarus claimed that the missile had fallen close to the village Harbacha in the Brest Region, approximately 15 kilomtres (nine miles) from the Ukrainian border, while a witness stated for Radio Free Europe that the windows were shaking and the houses were vibrating during the incident.

After the incident, Brest military commissioner, Oleg Konovalov stated that there was need to panic.

The situation is similar with the incident that happened on the territory of Poland recently. Citizens need not fear absolutely nothing, said the Brest Region military commissioner, reports Euronews.

CBS reports that Belarus might decide to demand context to get involved in the Russian invasion of Ukraine:

Several regions in Ukraine, including the capital city, faced massive Russian missile attack last Thursday which was the biggest wave of attacks in the last few weeks targeting national infrastructure. This morning, Russia fired explosive drones in several regions during the night before expanding the onslaught with “aerial and naval cruising missiles launched from strategically positioned aircraft and ships, announced the Ukrainian Air Force.

Moscow launched such attacks on weekly basis since October. After such a series of attacks, the Ukrainian Army informed that it intercepted Russian missiles and explosive drones, yet some did manage to reach the target destroying infrastructure and contributing to the hardship of the population in low temperature since the infrastructure in question was related to the electricity and water supply.

According to Politico the missile reached Belarus at time of massive Russian attacks on Ukraine when 69 rockets were fired causing deaths and electricty outages in the country. The Ukrainian defence intercepted 54 of those.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence suspects provocations on the part of Moscow.

Ukraine further opposes Russian barbariansm and aggression, exercising its unconditional right to self-defence in compliance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Concerning the statements made by the Belarus side, the Ukrainians are aware of the desperate and persistent efforts of Kremlin to involve Belarus into its aggressive war against Ukraine. In that direction the Ukrainian side does not rule out intentional provocation by the terrorist State of Russia by setting such a route for its cruise missiles so that they would be intercepted in the airspace over the territory of Belarus, reports the announcement of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.

Due to all above-mentioned facts, we assess lack of evidence that Ulkraine wants to involve Belarus into war.
