Had Petrovska ever said such a thing, all of the media would have reported it, both the national and the international media. But such a thing cannot be found in the online space, neither in writing nor in audio form. Indeed, had Petrovska stated such a thing, an appropriate response would have followed from the side that, was declared war, and that is Russia. But there was no such response

A post on the social network Facebook (screenshot here) claims that the North Macedonia’s Minister of Defense Slavjanka Petrovska allegedly stated that she declared war on Russia. This is not true! Petrovska has never stated such a thing, nor has she said anything similar.

Slavjanka, NATO’s female general, is the only minister in the world whose second statement was declaring war on Russia, while her first statement was that the meat she feeds the soldiers was not rotten. If she seriously intends to attack Russia, then I advise her to do that during the day, because her planes cannot fly at night. Oh… I almost forgot… Oh, Slavjanka, buy the soldiers some boots, so that they do not have to walk wearing sneakers.

The Facebook post that is the subject of this fact-check is spreading lies that the Minister of Defense, Petrovska, said that she is declaring war on Russia. The truth is that Petrovska has never said such a thing, in this or in any other similar context as insinuated by the post.

Last year, in February, when Russia began military aggression in Ukraine, Minister Petrovska condemned this act, but neither then nor after that has she said that she is declaring war on Russia.

We strongly condemn the military aggression of Russia in Ukraine and we stand united with NATO allies, calling Russia to stop the military actions that are threatening Europe’s security, Petrovska said.

Had Petrovska ever said such a thing, all of the media would have reported it, both national and international media. But such a thing cannot be found in the online space, neither in writing nor in audio or video form.

Indeed, had Petrovska stated such a thing, an appropriate response would have followed from the side that, was declared war, and that is Russia. But there is no such a thing.

Apart from that, Macedonia is a NATO member-state, which means that under no circumstances can the country declare war on another country, least of all to Russia. That is, to say the least, void of logic and sense.

The North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) was signed in Washington, on 4th April 1949. In its Article 1 it provides for international disputes to be resolved peacefully.

Article 1:
The Parties undertake, as set forth in the Charter of the United Nations, to settle any international dispute in which they may be involved by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security and justice are not endangered, and to refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force in any manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations.

The only post that can be found online in this context is the article with the headline: SLAVJANKA DECLARED WAR ON RUSSIA: I will prepare only Ukrainian salad in the future!, which, clearly, is a satirical text.

Hence, according to all of the above-noted facts, we assess that the Minister of Defense, Petrovska, has never stated that she was declares war on Russia.
