Extremely quickly Kremlin is expanding the circle of “Nazis”. First, it started with the Ukrainian authorities, and now continues with labelling the entire population and everyone supporting Ukraine. And while Ukraine proceeds with liberating occupied territories, the rhetoric of the Russian side, in context of Nazism, is becoming stronger and more extreme

A defining feature, as usually claimed by foreign media and fact-checkers, related to pro-Kremlin disinformation is its repetitiveness – lies and disinformation are repeated for the sole purpose of sounding more believable so that, eventually, people will trust them. Pro-Kremlin disinformation accomplishes this by deploying a set of recurring narratives that work as templates, depending on the requirement and the content.

What is especially apparent lately is the narrative on “Nazis” spread by the Kremlin regime.

As published by EuVsDisinfo, for many years, Russian state-controlled media have claimed that various states and entities are ruled by Nazis or permeated by Nazi ideology. The examples are well-documented in the database of EUvsDisinfo since 2015. There, for example, is claimed that Moldova is ruled by Fascists and so are the Baltic States and Poland. Furthermore, it claims that Europe “supports” Fascism as well as the European Parliament. Speaking in Vladivostok six months into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Vladimir Putin even speculates that EU’s Foreign Policy Chief, the High Representative Josep Borrell, ”would have been on the side of the fascists had he lived in the 1930s”.

But Ukraine – a country where millions died fighting Nazism in the Second World War, where the Nazi ideology is banned, according to Kremlin, is the most “Nazi” of them all. The EUvsDisinfo database contains almost 500 examples of pro-Kremlin claims about “Nazi/Fascist Ukraine”.

18th January, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, said that the United States of America assembled a coalition with European countries to resolve the “Russian issue” in the same manner in which Adolf Hitler looked for a “final solution” for exterminating the European Jews.

Just as Hitler wanted a “final solution” to the Jewish issue, now, if you read Western politicians… they clearly say that Russia must be strategically defeated, said Lavrov to the journalists in Moscow.

Previously, here was a large number of unsuccessful narratives such as the one that Russia is leading a “fight against an anti-Christ narrative”, but lately, Kremlin returned to its old method by repeating that Nazis are almost everywhere in Europe and in the USA.

They say that Nazis are everywhere, except in Russia, of course, was said in the programme “Break the Fake” from 30th January.

The programme, in the second minute, publishes a speech of the Russian propaganda expert, Vladimir Solovyov, one of the most popular disseminators of propaganda on official Russian TV channels, who believes that Berlin, Paris, Madrid, London, and Washington are the ”capital cities of Nazi states that should be burnt down”.

Thugs like Borrell, Scholz, Bearbock – Nazis – feel completely safe. They use tanks to kill Russian soldiers on Russian territory, while we are saying that we will bury them. Berlin, Paris, Madrid, London, Washington should be burnt down – the capital cities of Nazi countries that decided to wage war on Russia, he said.

Extremely quickly Kremlin is expanding the circle of “Nazis”. First, it started with the Ukrainian authorities, and now continues with labelling the entire population and everyone supporting Ukraine. And while Ukraine proceeds with liberating occupied territories, the rhetoric of the Russian side, in context of Nazism, is becoming stronger and more extreme.
