The video shared in the post is from 2015 when Mario Draghi was the president of the European Central Bank (ECB). He was the head of this institution from 2011-2019. As the Guardian reported on 15/04/2015, a female demonstrator attacked ECB President Mario Draghi at a press conference in Frankfurt after the latest monetary policy meeting. The reason for the attack was not a high gas bill, as claimed in the post, but a revolt against the ECB, headed by Draghi at the time of the attack

A Facebook post claims that a woman publicly attacked resigned Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi over a skyrocketing gas bill. The post is accompanied by a video of the attack, which is claimed to have happened recently. Truthmeter’s check showed that the information about the attack on Draghi was correct, but the reason and time are not.

In Macedonia they would not dare to beat him publicly in front of cameras…

Italy, San Patrignano renewal community: gas bill August 2021 €70,000, gas bill August 2022 €730,000, with the same consumption. An increase of over 1000%! In the video is the responsible for this apocalyptic economic disaster, the post says.

.

If you Google search the video, you will see that it is a recording from 2015, when Mario Draghi was the president of the European Central Bank (ECB). He was the head of this institution from 2011-2019. As the Guardian reported on 15/04/2015, a female demonstrator attacked ECB President Mario Draghi at a press conference in Frankfurt after the latest monetary policy meeting.

The protester threw shiny papers and confetti at Draghi and shouted “End of the dictatorship of the ECB!”. The security men took her away, and Draghi remained calm.

The protester, believed to be Josephine Witt, jumped on the table, throwing confetti at the ECB president. She also dropped leaflets denouncing the “undemocratic” bank and its role in the financial crisis, and repeatedly shouted “End the dictatorship of the ECB”, before being removed by security staff, the Guardian reports.

As informed by the ECB, Witt registered as a journalist to attend the press conference at the Bank’s new headquarters in Frankfurt.

Staff took immediate and effective action, the ECB said in a statement reported by the Guardian.

The video of the attack on Draghi can also be found on YouTube.

Therefore, it is true that Draghi was attacked publicly in front of cameras, but this event did not happen now, but 7 years ago. The reason for the attack was not a high gas bill, as claimed in the post we are analyzing, but a revolt against the European Central Bank, headed by Draghi at the time of the attack. Thus, we can conclude that the post we are reviewing is manipulative, inaccurately framed and with the wrong context.
