The video shared in the post we are reviewing is not from a “mysterious pilot”, but is a sequence from a video game “Digital Combat Simulator World”. A spokesman for the publishing company told Reuters that the material was indeed from the video game

We are reviewing a Facebook post, in which news about the “Ghost of Kyiv” is shared. The “Ghost of Kyiv” is an unknown person who is allegedly a mysterious pilot of a Ukrainian MiG-29 that shot down 10 Russian planes over the sky over Kyiv.

(VIDEO) EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT HIM, CALLS HIM THE GHOST OF KYIV: WHO IS THE MYSTERIOUS PILOT OF THE UKRAINIAN MIG-29 WHO DESTROYED 10 RUSSIAN PLANES ABOVE KYIV!

The text is accompanied by a 38-second video showing a plane being hit, set on fire and crashing.

However, this video sequence is not from a real event, but from the video game Digital Combat Simulator World (Digital Combat Simulator World) and in the video you can see it from 3 to 10 seconds.

This video is from the game, but in any case it was made out of respect for the Ghost of Kyiv…, wrote on YouTube the person who uploaded the video, on February 25, 2022.

A spokesman for Digital Combat Simulator World confirmed to Reuters that the material was indeed from a video game.

The “Ghost of Kyiv” is already widely written about, and on social networks it is portrayed with a series of fake videos and photos whose author cannot be proven.

So far, the existence of the pilot called “Ghost of Kyiv” cannot be confirmed. What is certain is that many of the shared videos that portray the alleged pilot are either manipulated by video games, or belong to other events, or are old.

We will cite the example of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who shared on Twitter a photo of a person he claimed to be the “Ghost of Kyiv”, which is three years old and posted on the website of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

The photo shows a pilot with a new French helmet. Even if the photo really shows the “Ghost of Kyiv”, it is old. There is no evidence that the person is really the same pilot or that he exists or does not exist.

For now, this fact is unprovable, and the “Spirit of Kyiv” remains in the domain of legends and is used mainly to motivate the Ukrainian army. Deutsche Welle fact-checkers also notice a series of photos, fake or old videos that portray this person on social networks, which cannot be correlated with him.

However, the video shared in the post we are reviewing is definitely not from the pilot, as it is a video from a game sequence. Hence, we assess the post as a post with missing context.
